PeggySue and Loftus of Broadmead
Member Since:
2015
Pet's Nickname:
Loftus
Pet's Breed:
Golden Retriever
I joined Faithful Paws in April of 2015 with my third Golden Retriever, Windsor. I had been a member of another pet therapy group since 1996 and was ready for a change. I was busy working full time and volunteering with my sons’ schools, but once I saw the pets coming to work with special needs kids, I was hooked. Our dogs have always been members of the family, and it felt right to not only include them in volunteering but highlight their special ability to share their love and kindness. I have volunteered in many different capacities, but working with your furbaby is the best!!
Where We Visit:
DePelchin, Ronald McDonald House, and one-time visits
Loftus’s superpower is just plain “young puppy energy” and “zest for life”. He is always ready to go and do. He loves all people and all dogs. Squirrels, however, we are still working on, and he has not formally met a cat as yet, but I am sure he would be great! He is at heart an old soul. With all his lust for a good time, he also understands that laying down next to someone who needs hugs is always a priority.
We have 4-year-old and 10-month-old grandsons and he adores them! All the neighborhood kids come running to him when he is out for his walks…even the toddlers! At a recent visit, Loftus was a little afraid of the Astros’s mascot, Orbit (at 6 feet tall and lime green, who wouldn’t be?!). The children were so cute giving him “reverse-therapy” and explaining that Orbit wouldn’t hurt him.
He spent two full hours at the Houston Convention Center at a high school student conference, and he flat-out adored and was adored by over 100 students at a non-stop pace of 4-5 at a time! I thought he would give out at an hour or so being so young, but nope! Every student – girl, boy, short, tall, scared of dogs or not – he was eager to meet and allow them to pet him, brush him, and/or just talk with him. He easily sensed where they were on the “how much I love Golden puppies spectrum”.
